Recently Mary Kom, a resident of Manipur, won her 6th Boxing World Cup gold medal and made every Indian proud. But not just her, various names from the remote North-eastern state have always provided key players to national teams of various sports like football, hockey,etc.
That is why, it is rightly called the powerhouse of games and sports. A general liking for physical sports and love for physical fitness among the Manipuri people encourages their youth to take up sports as a serious career choice.
Though, there is a dire lack of infrastructure in the state and efforts are being made to make mends to this by the government.
