Mesolithic age: Stone age man improved his tool and became a better hunter. Very small tools were made and used during this period. They ere less than 2 inches in length. These were called microliths. They were tiny and sharp.Different tools were made for different purpose and there was a variety of knives. The knives were fashioned out of stone and then attached to handles of bone, wood or horn. Many microliths made of flint stone, jasper, agate, quartzite and chert have been found.Microliths were probably also used to make spearheads, arrowheads, sickels and draggers. Some important Mesolithic sites are Bhimbetka and bagor.Microliths have also been found near Narmada,Tapi and Sabarmati rivers.

There is evidence to prove that at this stage man learnt how to tame animals. He alsoo learnt how to make hooks and traps to catch fish, and canoes from trees.
