The Biggest Surprise
When I turned seventeen, like many teens, I gained the privilege of being a licensed driver. I’ve always pictured myself in a little red convertible on a sweltering day going to the beach; but in reality, my financial status for this dream did not exist. My mother was very overprotective wither her vehicle, and she never let me take it out for a spin after being licensed. After months of having a license I never thought I would live up my dream, or even have wheels of my own. The date of my birth, November twelve, was right around the corner again, and still my mom did not budge in letting me use her car.

Tita, was my aunt, an accomplice of my mothers in this situation. I thought nothing of it because it is normal for my aunt to host dinner parties. Am I naive? It was four days before my birthday and I did not put the pieces of the puzzle together. I called my boyfriend and he said he would come over to pick me up.

After Jesse picked me up we were headed to my aunts’ house. As I walked up the entrance to my aunts’ house, I noticed complete darkness. As I entered through the door, everyone yelled “Surprise”! I felt so happy, the whole room had a vibrant feeling to it. All my family and friends were standing their looking at me with huge smiles on their face. My mom came and gave me a kiss. We all ate dinner, chatted, and where having a great time. Mid way through the party I noticed that this party had a catch. Everyone had the same giggly and happy attitude and my younger sister called me names like “Big Blue”. She never called me this before, so I knew something was up. After a great Happy Birthday for everyone, my mom handed me a card. Everyone was surrounding me, snapping pictures like paparazzi, and looking anxiously over me. I opened the card and it was a treasure hunt! I read aloud in the noisy anxious atmosphere,

“To find your treasure…you must hunt.”

Everyone let out a gasp. I found my second and last clue in the silverware drawer. Enclosed in the drawer was little pair on infant booties. My mom said,

As I reached in the tiny shoe, I see my moms eyes get watery, and then I pulled out car keys.

I let out the happiest scream in my life! I couldn’t believe it, my mom and the whole crew of thirty-five people rushed me to the garage. There it was. It was the most beautiful blue car I’ve ever seen. It was just sitting with a huge red ribbon, like in a film. I felt like the queen of the universe. I was so happy and surprised that I could never explain in words what I felt at that moment. I hugged and kissed my mom and we both started to cry. I was proud of her, and she apparently was proud of me too. My mom could have purchased any old, used car, and I would have accepted it happily; but, she got me a 2004 Honda Civic. At the moment in time, I loved my mother more than I ever did. She finally believed that I was responsible enough for this great driving privilege. I admire my mom and thanked her for being strong single women and, thanked her over and over again. When I got home that night I couldn’t sleep because of the emotions so I crawled into her bed and said,

“ Thanks Mom, for giving me the biggest, greatest surprise, I love you and you will always be in my heart.”

I fell asleep with her that night with her arms wrapped around me.

I think this will be perfect for you.
