Ranchi is the capital of the Indian state of Jharkhand. Ranchi was the centre of the Jharkhand movement, which called for a separate state for the tribal regions of South Bihar, northern Orissa, western West Bengal and the eastern area of what is present-day Chhattisgarh. The Jharkhand state was formed on 15 November 2000 by carving out the Bihar divisions of Chota Nagpur and Santhal Parganas. Ranchi has been selected as one of the hundred Indian cities to be developed as a smart city under PM Narendra Modi's flagship Smart Cities Mission.

Ranchi is one of the beautiful cities of Eastern India. The weather of Ranchi is so much pleasant. It is not so much busy as compared to a metro city like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, e.t.c. Here you can experience a simple city life. This city has some local transportation problems like it do not have well managed city buses connecting different parts of city. The buses are in worst condition. Also the major problem of this city is the shops are not open till late night. The roads here are not wide resulting in a huge traffic problem across the city. Although showroom of approximately every big brand is in Ranchi but the absence of brand like McDonald's is quite surprising. It has presence of reputed educational institutions like IIM Ranchi which is one of the best newly started IIM's in terms of placements. For Technical education it has presence of institutions like BIT Mesra and NIFFT Ranchi. Both of these institution have their own importance across the country. Many big personalities of our country are alumni of BIT, Mesra and NIFFT Ranchi being a unique institution of it's kind in Asia for studying foundry, forge, metallurgy, material science and manufacturing engineering. It also has a presence of excellent institute for studying Medical Sciences such as RIMS ( Rajendra Institute of Medical Science ). For studying law this city has a presence of reputed institution like National University of Study and Research in Law (NUSRL). There are several reputed industrial institutions like HEC, Mecon, CCL, CMPDI, SAIL (RDCIS ) present here. There is also an international cricket stadium JSCA (Jharkhand State Cricket Association ) which has hosted many international cricket matches and IPL matches. The present ODI and T-20 captain of Indian Cricket Team M.S. Dhoni is also from Ranchi. This city has also hosted 2011 National Games. There are many places in Ranchi to visit such as Hundru Falls, Jonha Falls, Dasham Falls, Panchghag Falls, Pahari Mandir, e.t.c. This city has largest flag with tallest flagpole which was hoisted by Defence Minister of our country at Pahari Mandir.
