Answer: We were invited by friends to stay on houseboat on nageen lake,which is on the outskirts of Srinagar,the capital of kashmir,During the whole of the month we were there.We were not subjected to any militants activity, we were stop at various checkpoints around kashmir but as long as u r polite but do not led yourself be intimidated by the army or police officers then there is generally no problem.Security was pretty tight for the first 15 days as indias independence day the military presences on the street was reduced.
As for kashmir, it is one of the most beautiful states in india it has some very spectacular scenery and also beautiful lakes and gardens in and around the capital of Srinagar. Prices of kashmir seem to be lower than other tourist areas in india. The weather was spectacularly hot with only one day of rain during the whole of August.
