My tribute to Bankim………….
I bow with respect to such a great person who has made a difference in the whole country through his works.
I applaud his self-respecting nature where he would never bow down to injustice.
His contribution to the whole country to evoke patriotism through his National song, ‘Vande Mataram’ is par excellence.
He is a class apart by boldly straying away from traditional way of writing and introducing his own style.
He had a purpose to his story-telling and other writings, which is much appreciated.
His failings were never a drawback for him as he learnt through his mistakes. This was especially apparent when he switched his writing from English to Bengali.
He took upon himself to bring about a change to reverse both physical and cultural influence of British rule over India. He contributed silently and humbly towards this change through his literary work.
This created a whole new conscious India where people could talk in terms of ‘our literature’, ‘our country’, ‘our language’, ‘our history’ proudly.
Bankim Chattopadhyay’s humorous sketches like in ‘Kamalakanter Daptar’ are also his famous works in addition to his novels. They add more entertainment while reading.
