News today is high on sensation and low on substance

Media is the hallmark of the current times. Everything is being influenced by it. The world has been swept over by the media tsunami. Tell me any aspect that’s untouched by it. At home TV is always on! Smart phones and computers have become omnipresent, omnipotent, and omniscient, haven’t they?

Media is the most efficient tool to form a public opinion. There are thousands of channels being aired. There is a flood of information and news through news channels. However, they have become so melodramatic in presenting the information. In order to raise their TRP they air such news and other programs which often appear to be the travesty of news.

As a consequence the quality of the news has gone down. These channels keep beating around the bush. The same news is being presented throughout the day repeatedly. Even such news as need not be aired, are being telecast. Quite shockingly, these channels air more advertisements than the quality news. Nor are the channels free of bias and prejudices. Almost all political parties use one or another channel to promote their ideologies.

People seem to have lost faith in the news channels; they watch them for mere entertainment, not as a medium of imparting unbiased information.
