Noise pollution or sound pollution is any unwanted noise that is detrimental to the quality of life of both human and animal life. Noise pollution, also known as environmental noise, is commonly generated in many industrial facilities. It also comes from the highways, railways, airplanes, music systems, public announcement (PA) systems, and construction activities.
Effects of noise pollution:
Noise pollution adversely affects our general well-being. It slowly damages our physiological health. Noise pollution can result in lack of sleep, high blood pressure, and anxiety. Noise pollution can lead to partial or complete loss of hearing. It causes many stress-related illnesses. Noise pollution is more harmful to children. Noise pollution is also a hazard for historical buildings. For this reason airplanes are not allowed to fly directly above the Taj Mahal.
Prevention of noise pollution:
To reduce noise pollution, aircraft engines and automobile engines should be fitted with better silencers. Factories should be relocated away from residential areas. Sound barriers should be installed in flyovers. More trees should be planted along the roads because trees absorb noise. The laws for the regulation of noise pollution by motor vehicles and public nuisance by noise should be strictly enforced.
