Answer:
This leads us to the consideration of the duties which the students should discharge in order to become good citizens of tomorrow. When we talk of duties, the terms ‘rights’ naturally occurs to us. The students of today, unfortunately, are conscious of only their rights. It is good that they should have a consciousness of these too, for they are the basic conditions of freedom. But, what is more important to understand is the fact that rights do not stand by themselves. They grow out of duties.
Hence the need is to be more conscious about duties than about rights. Duties of students can be divided into four categories: (1) Duties to themselves, (2) Duties to the family, (3) Duties to the society and the (4) Duties to the humanity. The first duty of students is towards themselves. They should try to have good health, for a sound mind lives in a sound body. One cannot do anything great without good health, however much one wants to do so. For this purpose they should take part in games and sports. They should be guided by the maxim “Read while you read and play while you play.” The second duty which they owe to themselves is character formation. Building up of good habits in the beginning is very necessary. The good habits that are formed in the student life last throughout. And character is nothing but a bundle of habits.
‘Simple living and high thinking1 must be the motto of their lives. They should develop decency, good manners and good behavior towards others. Thirdly, they should pay full attention to their studies, for it is their studies which shall determine their future course of life.
Duties towards the family:
Besides duties towards themselves, students owe duties towards their parents, elders and teachers. Parents who are responsible for their having come into the beautiful, delightful world have a moral claim upon their children, who should do everything to repay at least some part of the irreparable debt they owe to their parents. They should not do anything that tarnishes the image of their family.
Answer:
Gratitude is Great
Gratitude means thanks and appreciation. Gratitude, which rhymes with "attitude," comes from the Latin word gratus, which means "thankful, pleasing." When you feel gratitude, you're pleased by what someone did for you and also pleased by the results. Unlike indebtedness, you're not anxious about having to pay it back.
Gratitude reduces materialism. The problem with materialism is that it makes people feel less competent, reduces feelings of relatedness and gratitude, reduces their ability to appreciate and enjoy the good things of life, generates negative emotions, and makes them more self-centered.
Acts of gratitude keep the world from getting gloomy. Gratitude brightens our day. Being thankful for even the little things that others do for us should be the way of our life. Parents sacrifice so much for their children. They cared for us when we were helpless infants. Their love and care continue even when we are able to stand on our own feet. But sadly many people forget to express their gratitude to their parents. When their parents get old and frail, they ignored them. In their hour of need we must be there for them just as they did to us when we were unable to take care of ourselves. Parents make sacrifices but expect nothing in return. They are happy as long as you are doing well. There is nothing in the world by which we can repay them. The least we can do for them is to express our love and gratitude to them.
There are also many other people we should not forget to show gratitude. They may be our teachers, our friends, or even a stranger.
There is more to expression of gratitude in our family and social life. There is also scientific evidence that expressing genuine gratitude on a daily basis can improve physical health as well by improving quality of sleep, cardiovascular (heart) health and immune function. Gratitude promotes optimism and helps us to develop a more positive outlook.
Gratitude is great. Gratitude does not make you lesser, it makes you greater. It increases your value as a human being.
