Plastic rules our lives these days. Common household items, medical containers and equipment, packaging materials, even packaged drinking water comes in plastic.

The main reasons behind the popularity of plastics is that, it is lightweight and durable. It is also cheaper than most other materials. However, plastic comes with a long list of drawbacks too. Most plastics are not biodegradable and hence lies around without deteriorating. Plastic sheets choke animals which unknowingly eat them. Plastic is also known to be carcinogenic to mankind, if not used appropriately.

Currently, organisations and NGOs’ are working on educating the masses to reduce usage of plastic and also methods of disposing plastics in a responsible manner.
