It is said that these days, more people die of accidents on the roads than of any diseases. Some of the accidents on the roads take place because of mechanical failure of vehicles. But in most cases the fault lies with human beings who drive these vehicles.

A person can make some error while-making a turn or passing through a crossing and that results in accident of some magnitude, minor or major. Such instances are not many. Most often the cause of an accident is rash driving on the part of the driver of one vehicle or the drivers of both the vehicles that collide. Rash driving some time may not cause an accident by collision.

The driver may lose control over the brakes and the vehicle may just slip away downwards and capsize or it may hit a tree, pole or a stationary vehicle or wall or it may pass over some pedestrians or sleeping or sitting people. The most general cause of rash driving is drinking.

A driver, who is tipsy, loses control over his nerves and judgment and then over his brakes also. Thus, drinking enhances the chances of rash driving by a driver who otherwise may be quite an efficient one. Whatever the reason, rash driving should be avoided at all costs.

Answer:

Road accidents are increasing due reckless driving by adults as well as youngsters and minors which causes accidents and results in injuries and lost of life.

Traffic rules prohibit driving by underaged children, overspeeding, driving on the wrong lane, parking in no parking zones, bikers without helmet, car drivers without driving license or without seat belts, driving under influence of intoxicants, etc. The penalties to the defaulters are clearly defined. It can be a fine or imprisonment or both. Overspeeding and ignoring traffic lights and driving under the influence of alcohol must be viewed seriously. There are several hit and run cases everyday. Reckless drivers hit other vehicles or pedestrians, the people walking on foot and the drivers fled from the scene with the victims bleeding, screaming in pain and calling for help. Those driving above the speed limits must be given exemplary punishments for neglecting rules and regulations of public roads. They are a menace and highly dangerous to public safety. Our traffic personnel must do their best to book them under relevant laws.

I think it is high time for us to impose heavier penalties on the offenders to deter rash and reckless driving.

Our traffic control personnel must be increased. Population and vehicle users are growing rapidly but the number of traffic police has more or less remained the same. Hence the need to recruit more traffic police.

It is also necessary to introduce road safety lessons in the text books of schools and colleges. Students must be taught the necessity of safe driving and learn to honour the sanctity of human life.

Further, no driving license should be issued to minors. No license should be given to anyone until they have passed from driving schools with satisfactory performance.

A reckless and irresponsible driver endangers his own life, the life of other drivers as well as passengers and pedestrians. It is heartbreaking to see any young person whose life is cut short because reckless driving. We must remember that it is better to drive safely and reach home alive.
