Answer:

Guru Tegh Bahadur’s martyrdom is unparalleled in the realms of the world history, which not only instilled a new life into those sections of society, which were scared of rulers of the time, bent upon converting them into Muslims. He did not laid down his life fighting a war or a battle for his personal gains rather willingly sacrificed his life to save Kashmiri pandits being coerced into adopting Islam by the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb moving from Anandpur Sahib to Delhi, where at present Gurdwara Sis Ganj Sahib is situated.”

This was stated by renowned Sikh scholar Dr Rattan Singh Jaggi during his lecture on ‘Guru Tegh Bahadur: Life, Philosophy and Martyrdom,” organised by the Guru Tegh Bahadur National Integration Chair at the Senate Hall in Punjabi University, here, today.

Guru Tegh Bahadur inculcated the spirit of determination and courage to fight against extremism, cruelty and suppression rather than giving into external pressures and compulsions. He also redeemed the people caught in cobwebs of self-imposed dilemmas and predicaments.

In his presidential remarks, Vice-Chancellor Prof BS Ghuman said the concept of national integration was dynamic and vibrant, and was, therefore, bound to change with time and situations. Scientific interpretations, leading to new meanings and logics were necessary, especially during the fast-changing economic, political and cultural parameters. He advocated the cause of resorting to ‘outreach programmes’ to spread these messages to the maximum number of people.

While the head of the Chair, Dr Daljit Singh, introduced the theme of the lecture, Dr KS Dhillon, professor of history, proposed a vote of thanks.

Answer:

The practitioner has shown us the purposes of life and has given us the path of equivalency, harmony, and repudiation. He's flashed back as the Guru who supported the rights of all religious freedom. No period in the last four centuries can be imagined without the influence of the ninth practitioner, Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. Though the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee( SGPC) has decided to cancel the plan of grand events to be held at Bhai Gurdas Ji Nagar and has also devoted its Guru Ram Das Charitable Sanitarium to the treatment of Covid cases, these observances will now be held at the Diwan Hall of Gurdwara Sri Manji Sahib at the Golden Temple. A series of events are being organised at Gurdwara Guru Ke Mahal, the motherland of the ninth practitioner, in Amritsar.

The time has come to take the life and training of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji as well as the entire practitioner tradition to the world to inspire humanity. The traditions can be understood if we go through how the Sikh community and millions of followers of our exponents are following in their steps, how Sikhs are performing great social service and how gurudwaras are the conscious centres of mortal service.

The supreme immolation for the cause of mortal quality, liberty, freedom of deification and training, and the martyrdom of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji conveys a communication of everlasting significance, universal and inalienable values that were the basic rights of every human being.
