The role of the chief justice of India is that this person is one of the members of the judiciary. In fact this role is that of the highest order of the judiciary.

The Chief Justice presides in the Supreme Court and has administrative responsibilities for that court and, through the Chief High Court Judge, for the High Court.

The Chief Justice has a number of responsibilities and functions that are related to the statutory and non-statutory ones.

1- Judicial function

He is the head of the judiciary who has seniority over all judges. Thus he is the one responsible for all the duties of the decisions of the court.

2- Administrator of the Government

The Chief Justice acts as Administrator of the Government in the absence of the Governor General. He has all the powers and functions of the office including chairing Executive Council and helping in the governing operations.

There are relations between the Judiciary and other branches of government In regard, the Chief Justice of India is the main/head point of contact between the Executive Government and the Judiciary.
