In my opinion both Audio and visual media are extremely important. Both aspects of media are vital in our daily lives. Without Audio Media, we would be left without music and sound but without visual media, our life would be like a blank canvas. The music video for “Thriller” is why the song became so famous. When people mention the song “Thriller” nowadays the first thing that pops into your mind is the actual video itself and the visual aspects of it such as the zombie like dance. This highlights the importance of video and the visual side of the music. Michael Jackson’s music video “Thriller” has sold over one hundred million copies and this is due to the video itself. The music video featured Michael Jackson as a Zombie dancing. The music video was released in 1983, this was when music video’s started to become mainstream. The “Thriller” music video had a massive impact on the public because how different it was to any other music video at the time. Since it’s release in 1983, it has been featured in many Music channels on programmes such as “MTV’s 100 greatest Videos Ever Made” and has been labelled by the music industry as a music video sensation. Michael Jackson himself highlights the importance of music videos in the music industry by how much money he actually spent on the video itself. He spent 500,000 dollars alone on the music video for “Thriller”, which is actually a small amount compared to the 7 million he spent on the music video for his song “Scream”. Of course the audio and the song itself is hugely important but I believe, especially in this day and time, the visual elements in the music industry are out weighing the song’s.
