For many of us the days spent in school are the happiest and the best days of our life. The very memory of school days fills our minds with nostalgic memories of happy days of yester years.
I study in a school called St. Johns Secondary School, Guwahati. It is run by the catholic priests of the Diocese of Guwahati. My school commences its classes at 9.00 a.m. We have four periods in the morning and three in the afternoon. In the morning, after two periods, there is a short recess while the long recess is between 12.00 a.m. and 1.00 p.m. during which we take our lunch. The school gets over at 3.00 p.m. We have classes from Monday to Friday unlike some schools which have classes even on Saturdays. On every alternate day, we have computer classes, while once in a week there is a period for handicraft and creative activities. Co- curricular activities, such as, scouting, N.C.C., school band.
Environmental Club, Social service Group, etc., are very active in my school. I take part in most of these activities. Matches, tournaments, cultural shows, competitions, outings, picnics, etc., make my school life lively, interesting and enjoyable.
The key functions of my school are School Annual Sports day, Parents’ Day, Teacher’s Day, Children’s Day, Anniversary Day, Founder’s Day, etc. These are celebrated in a grand manner providing a lot of opportunities for the development of students’ inborn talents and abilities.
Utmost importance is given to academic pursuits in the school. Classes are held regularly and are interspersed with monthly tests and quarterly examinations. Those, who fair badly in these tests and examinations, are severely admonished, and in some cases, their parents are called.
Additional classes are allotted for these students so that they get an opportunity to clarify their doubts. All co-curricular activities and celebrations are usually conducted outside school time and on Saturdays. In fact, academic excellence has been the hallmark of my school.
School is the nursery of life. What one learns in school remains with us for the rest of our life? Realising this basic truth, the authorities of my school try to instill in us, the basic values of life such as, discipline, honesty, punctuality, dutifulness, respect to elders, being good-mannered, personal cleanliness, etc.
A lot of emphasis is given to character formation, moral education and acquiring good principles of life. Providing social service to the neighbourhood is an integral part of this attempt. A lot of importance is given to the acquisition of personal discipline.
The place or building where children are educated is called a School. Schools are etablished as the Institutions for educating children. We can see that schooling has been a system since the beginning of human civilization. During the ancient time, schools emerged as the holy places. Most of them were established in huts and cottages. During that time schooling system was not commercial and professional. Nowadays, It has been changed to harmonize with the intricate essence of modernity.
The name of my school is Shree Saraswati Higher Secondary School. It was established as a primary school 15 years ago. Now it is a higher secondary school. I feel my school is very big and famous. It has covered a large area, about 10 ropanies of land. The school owns three buildings. The oldest one which consists of 15 rooms seems to be uniquely
antique. Other two new buildings are modern. Altogether the school owns 44 rooms. It also has a big playground where we play multiple sorts of games.
We have a big library and a well-facilitated reading room. The science lab is said to be well-equipped. There is an apt provision of a computer lab and an audio-visual room. We can enjoy the facilities of games such as volleyball, football etc. The surrounding of the school seems to be full of scenery and eye- catching beauty.
Altogether there are 1000 students studying in different levels (nursery to class 12). I have been studying there for 13 years. I got admitted in Nursery and now I am in Grade 10. I will be studying here for more 2 years. I am intending to complete my higher secondary education from the same school. 55 teachers are working here. Other 10 non-teaching staff are also employed.I do feel that all our respected teachers have been teaching us perfectly. I understand each subject well.I have thought all the teachers are well-qualified and adequately well-trained and amply experienced as well because they have guided us properly to explore and fabricate our destiny.
Each Friday, we don't have normal classes after the break hour. Our school manages extra-curricular activities such as games, sports, debate, oratory, spelling contest, etc. to germinate our creative potential. At our school, there is dound relationship between the students and the teachers because the true spirit of infantilization has been inextricably harmonized and fortified. All the teachers love us. We respect them and obey their suggestions and advice. The S. L. C and +2 results are very excellent. Most of the students pass these exams.
Although my school is one of the best ones, a few weaknesses can be noted. Nowadays the surrounding environment of the School has got polluted. And we are frequently disturbed by the noise made by the vehicles. Indeed I like and love my school very much.I feel proud of being a student of this school and I do believe that nothing worsens it.
