Surgical Attack in response to Uri Attack
On 18th September, four Pakistani Militants
attacked Indian Army at Uri base in Jammu &
Kashmir causing massive casualties leading to
19 deaths. It was the Jaish-e-Mohammad
Fidayeen group of Pakistan that planted attack on
Indian army base of Uri. Post the Uri Attack, on
21st September India gave a protest letter to
Pakistan High Commission Abdul Bassit with
details of involvement of Pakistan in the attack.
Despite the summoning, Pakistani defence
Minister blamed India of carrying the Uri attack
to grab attention from protestant groups in
Jammu & Kashmir. This led to agitation leading
India to carry planned surgical strikes in military
launch pads by crossing the Line of Control.
Planning for the surgical strike
After Pakistan blamed India to have conducted
the Uri attack on self, India geared up to plant
the surgical strikes. On 22nd September,
Director general of Army Lt General Ranbir Sigh
briefed PM Modi, then Defence Minister Manohar
Parikkar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval
about the military operations. The decision to
start the surgical strike on Pakistani military
camps was made on 23rd September. The task
of segregating Special Forces troops and prepare
for the action was assigned to Northern Army
Commander Lt Gen DS Hooda.
Surgical strike conducted by India
In response to Uri attack, after 11 days of the
attack on 29th September, India conducted
surgical strike in Pakistani controlled and
administered Kashmir. The operations began
around 12.30 am where the commandos were air
dropped at LoC and they crossed to the Pakistan
side. As claimed by India the surgical strikes
were carried out in Bhimber, Holspring, Kel &
Lipa Sectors across the LoC in Pakistan side.
During the surgical strike, 7 military launch pads
were destroyed and 38 terrorists and two
Pakistani soldiers were killed. The surgical
strikes were conducted by India for two days on
28th and 29th September. According to Army
sources, before attacking special force walked
1-3km on foot post which they started
destroying the terrorist bases.
