Atal Bihari Vajpayee who was born on  25 December 1924 is an Indian statesman who was the 10th Prime Minister of India, first for 13 days in 1996 and then from 1998 to 2004. A leader of the Bharatiya janatha Party(BJP), he is the first Prime Minister from outside the Indian national Congress party to serve a full five-year term.A parliamentarian for over four decades, Vajpayee was elected to the Lok Sabha Which is the lower house of Indian parliament nine times, and twice to the Raja Sabha which is the upper house. He also served as the Member of Parliament for Lucknow, UP, until 2009, when he retired from active politics due to health concerns. Vajpayee was one amongst the founder members of erstwhile BharathiyaJana sangh  , which he had also headed. He was also the Minister of Externel affairs in the cabinet of Morarji Desai. When Janata Government collapsed, Vajpayee restarted the Jana Sangh as the Bharatiya Janata Party in 1980.On 25 December 2014 the office of President of India announced the Bharath Ratna award, India's highest civilian honour, to Vajpayee. In a special gesture, President of India conferred Bharat Ratna to Atal Bihari Vajpayee in his residence on 27 March 2015. His birthday, 25 December, was declared "Good Governance Day".

Born on 25th December 1924, Shri. Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the 10th Prime Minister of India. He is also considered to be a great statesman of India. For thirteen days he became the prime minister of India in 1966and again from 1998 till 2004. Besides being a politician he was an excellent poet also. He was respected throughout the world and was a popular and honest politician in India. Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee was also the external affair minister under  Prime Minister Morarji Desai. Even today, his speech in Hindi at the United Nations General Assembly is still recalled as one of the best speeches. He tried to improve relation with Pakistan while he was the prime minister in 1998. Being criticized by everyone, he moved forward towards the betterment of the country and traveled through Lahore bus. He was depicted to be the fearless man and took bold steps. He was awarded Bharat Ratna on 27th March 2015. However, he was known as the man of the millennium as he knew how to lead a country.
