Now, St. Kuriakore Elias Chavara (“K E Chavara” as will be addressed in this Essay from here), was born on February 10th in the year 1805. Both parents Iko Chavara (father) and Mariam Chavara (mother) were God loving individuals and so St. KE Chavara was Batptized in his early childhood during 8th day of his child birth. He was baptized in Syro-Malabar church in Kerala.

Village schools was attended by him till the age of 10 years. He is also known to have learned many different languages. He became a priest on 29th Nov. 1829 in Pastoral Monastry.

In 1866 he had founded Mother of Carmel – CMC church for women. Here he was known to help work for women empowerment by wide spreading and encouraging women to participate in the social and reform activities via church congregation. He also helped to gain the status of common educationist in Kerala state.

He also encouraged Church and women of the state to participate in opening of New educational institutions and schools in Kerala.  

After his efforts Kerala is today more commonly known as Pallikkoodam which in English means Educational place.

He also counsels a number of other Christian families to participate more in social activities via Loving fathers Testament. He is also called as “Man of God” by his followers and people of Kerala. He also established the very first Sanskrit school in Kerala under CMI – Congregation for Men along with a Printing press for Catholic.
