Tezpur (pron: tezˈpʊə) (Assamese: তেজপুৰ) is a city and Urban Agglomeration and the administrative headquarters and municipal board of Sonitpur district in the state of Assam in northeastern India. Tezpur is a fast growing City on the banks of the river Brahmaputra and is the largest of the north bank towns with a population exceeding 100,000. It is 175 kilometres (109 mi) northeast of Guwahati, considered to be the "Cultural Capital of Assam". Tezpur is also known as the Most Clean City of Assam because of its clean and green view. Tezpur attracts every visitor who comes here with its beautiful parks, hillocks, sceneries and well established hotels.

Tezpur is the city of eternal love lying along the mighty river Brahmaputra. Tezpur has great historical significance in Assam. The name Tezpur itself says City of Blood also known as Sonitpur. According to mythology, when Lord Krishna fought for his grandson Aniruddha with the army of Banasur there was bloodshed all around the place and the whole place was filled with blood and so it was named Tezpur and is known by the name till this date. It is the district headquarters of all the administrative offices which falls under Sonitpur district which was previously known as the Darrang district during the British rule in India.

There are many historical places in Tezpur which are of great significance and are also great tourist spot. Some of the places are Da Parbatia where one can see the architecture of ancient Assam dating back to 4th century of the prehistoric era. Also among the many more such tourist spots one can also find its root with the history in Bamuni hills, Hazara Pukhuri which was made by King Harjara of the Hajara dynasty. There are famous tourist place that one can visit on their journey to Tezpur . Among these places one can visit Agnigarh and have a beautiful view of the mighty river Brahmaputra and can also have the view the city. It is a great weekend place for families and friends and enjoy their time over there. There is also Bhairabi temple popularly known among the locals as Maithan. There is the Kaliabhomora Bridge which is one of the longest bridge of Assam. Cole park is also very famous among the young tourist and there are many Assamese films and songs which has been picturised here. One’s journey is incomplete in this eternal city if he has not been to the famous Mahabhairab temple as this is one of the biggest Lord Shiva temple of India. Also there are many religious shrine such as Ketakeshwar temple, Rudrapath and Nag Shankar.
