Why should people suffer the consequences of COVID-19 from others’ actions?
COVID-19 has claimed thousands of lives. By not taking caution we will be added to the list. We must stay indoors and consider various factors to limit the spread of COVID-19. This situation is no laughing matter. By not taking it seriously, we are putting the lives of innocent people at risk. By following the rules that are in place, we will be able to save the lives of thousands of people. If we are not vigilant, we could pass the virus onto people who are prone to it. They are more probable to get extremely sick or even die. That is why we should consider them and their needs. We should not be putting the lives of innocent children at risk so they can go to school.
People should strictly be in quarantine for 14 days if they have come in contact with someone who has COVID-19, arrived from another country, or if they have flu-like symptoms. Some people have not been taking these measures seriously. By not taking these measures seriously, you are putting yourself as well as others in danger. Two weeks provides enough time for us to know whether or not we will become ill and be contagious to other people. Professor Marc Lipsitch said "I think it is likely we will see a global pandemic. If a pandemic happens, 40% to 70% of people worldwide are likely to be infected in the coming year.” Health experts advise that self-quarantine lasts 14 days. By doing so, you are not putting yourself as well as others at risk. We must start taking these measures seriously if we want to limit the spread of COVID-19.
Panic buyers must stop hoarding and stocking up on items which are necessary for everyone during this pandemic. These items include hand sanitizer and soap which can eliminate the virus, also, medicine and vitamins which can boost your immunity. Since this is a new virus, we have limited knowledge about its characteristics, making it more dangerous and frightening for us. The shortages that people have caused have gotten to a point where a mother could not buy essentials for her child. “Last week, I visited eight pharmacies and couldn’t buy a face mask for my son to wear. I have resorted to hassling the doctors at the Hospital to send me some face masks.” The fact this mother is wasting the precious time of under-resourced doctors is appalling. Yet, she was driven to do this because others have hoarded them in case of an emergency; and she could not physically buy any in stores. Everyone has the same right as you to protect themselves. Now is the time to be using and buying supplies, not hoarding them in case you need it later. We must end the shortages by stoping hoarding and stocking up.
