Karuvarakundu is a small town in the eastern part of Malappuram district, Kerala, India. It is situated 32 kilometres (20 mi) east of Manjeri, 10 kilometres (6 mi) northeast of Melattur and 10 km southeast of Kalikavu. The Olippuzha River flows through the town, a tributary of the Kadalundipuzha.Karuvarakundu is very near to the Western Ghats and hence prone tolandslides. There are many tea and rubberplantations in and around Karuvarakundu.[citation needed] The name Karuvarakundu means habitat of the blacksmith, indicating the town's history as a metalworking centre.Several roads and footbridges were destroyed in the floods.· Fresh landslips were reported from the hills of Nilambur, Karulai, Kalikavu and Karuvarakundu regions
