essay on the world without clock
Answers
No clocks? Well, time would not stop, but we humans would be much better off without them — oh, in my so humble opinion.
I know medical apparatus, jet aircraft instruments, terrorist’s bombs, and the like would have to be recalibrated to work automatically without timing devices.
We have to be “on time”! Rush, rush, rush. . . all the time. Our wrists are always sore from looking at our watches. Meanwhile, we count the hours ticking away, the days going by so fast, the weeks and months flying by — because we are so conscious of time.
We invented clocks so everybody could get to work on time, together, like cattle. Everything was done according to what time it was on the clocks.
All day, tick tock, tick tock — we’re so aware of time ticking by that we feel events more acutely than we should. Supper at Panera’s at five o’clock. Must meet boss at 5:35 a.m. Must meet wifey’s second cousin Sunday at 1:30 p.m. You must have a bowel movement at 6 a.m.
Why must we put timing devices on our wrists to watch the time we have left?
So, yes, I think we’d have a more relaxed, easy going, but still productive and bold society, without clocks telling us constantly “You’re running out of time!”
