Voting is not just a right, it is also a responsibility. People who vote during the elections in India represent just a percentage of the total population.

Voting should be made compulsory so that the leaders who are elected deserve to lead the nation. India needs to become more politically literate. Giving people the right to vote is not enough.

You need to make voting mandatory as this ensures that people learn about their position with respect to issues such as social change, empowerment, financial policies and other aspects that are of critical importance for national growth and development.

Voting is a fundamental right of every citizen who has become a major at 18 years in India.  Voting gives a right to choose a candidate to represent your constituency in the Lok sabha of the parliament.  All major decisions related to the country are taken by the Lok sabha.

In the last few Lok sabha elections it is seen that the voting percentage is around 60% only.  Government makes it a compulsory holiday for all people so that they can vote on that day.  Further the government provides for postal ballots.  It is possible that around 5 to 10% of the people are sick or too old to walk to the polling booth and wait in the long queues in hot Sun.

It is better to take a little pain and elect a better representative than not vote and have a weak or bad representative.  So the government should take positive steps towards this.  Voting should be made compulsory for all citizens.  People should be allowed to change their addresses, get new cards, verify the validity of their voting card at the allocated polling booth, presence of their voter id in the rolls more easily with the municipal corporation.

People must take it as a duty and national responsibility to vote.  Nowadays online modifications are possible for voting cards.

There should be many more polling booths than are at present.  This will reduce the waiting time in hot or cold weather or during rains.  Then people will have more interest and enthusiasm than now.
