Answer:

It is said that around 3.7 billion years ago, the earth cooled down and had warm oceans. In these warm water bodies, the first single-celled organisms evolved. Thus, water was instrumental in the origin of life. 70% of the earth is covered with water, and up to 70% of the human body is made of water. Today we have millions of marine species, but many plants and animals evolved to survive in non-saline conditions.

The human civilization rose on the banks of rivers. Early human beings settled down along the fertile river basins as it was easy for growing crops, and was convenient for transportation too. Presently, agriculture demands for 70% of the freshwater needs. Industries and domestic uses share the rest thirty percent. But this precious resource has become scarce due to many human-made reasons.

Answer:

Water conservation means the practice of using water efficiently to reduce unnecessary wastage of water. Water conservation is important because fresh clean water is a limited resource and mankind, animals, birds and all all life forms need water for survival. Water pollution is causing scarcity of drinking water in our cities, towns and almost every where. We must conserve water in every possible ways. Some ways to conserve water and prevent wasting of water are:

1) Fix any leak in your toilet and shower quickly.

2) Check for leaks in water pipes both inside and outside the house.

3) Do not waste water by taking unnecessary long showers.

4) While brushing your teeth or shaving, turn off the tap when not in use.

5) Rinse your vegetables in a bowl instead of washing them in a running water tap.

6) Water your lawn only when it needs it and not as and when you want to.

7) Plant drought-resistant trees and plants. There are many beautiful trees and plants which thrive with less water.

8) Reuse the water for rinsing vegetables for watering your garden.

9) Use modern efficient irrigation systems.

10) Children love to play under a hose or sprinkler on a hot day. But this practice is wasteful of precious water and should be discouraged.

Water is a finite resource. If not managed properly it will result in acute scarcity in the future. Let us conserve water for the preservation of human life and other life forms on Earth.
