Although NEWater is very a very effective process, it has a couple of disadvantages. NEWater will not be able to produce enough potable water to be independent. It is now only able to produce 30 percent of Singapore's demand. In the future, 2060, it is predicted to meet 55 percent of Singapore’s demand. In this long time it is yet to be 100 percent and probably wont be for a while. Although 50 percent is a major improvement is very positive it is still not 100 and Singapore cannot be independent and will still need the help of another water supply.

Is this what they should be spending their money on or are there other solutions or problems that need to be paid and fixed. Luckily this is cheaper than desalination plants which provide potable water from salt water. For singapore it is important to not be dependent or less dependent on others. This solution would create stability for Singapore and would not be at risk of future increasing prices of importation caused by water shortages around the world. Much of the population is against NEWater, because they are rather disgusted of the thought of drinking sewage water. They don’t accept this idea people have developed a thought of an ideal clean water and NEWater doesn’t suit their expectations. It is in many cases socially unacceptable to drink for the population of singapore. They say that NEWater has a strange taste although it is perfectly safe they are still not convinced and often refuse to drink it. People still believe that it is dirty and find it unacceptable. These standards are ridiculous and need to be broken. It has a negative impact because many people would be against it and may even protest. Many people would be disappointed in the government for investing in this solution. Therefore it is important to change their mindset and standards. They should teach about the benefits and sanity of the NEWater. This might take time to show people that NEWater will do no harm and effect positively but
