Essay on what is more important being popular or doing right
Answers
Answer:
Popularity is said to be the the state or condition of being liked, admired, or supported by many people. Many people today are trying so hard to be popular in the hopes of pleasing themselves. They always want other people to admire everything about them but not most of times popularity is good. Balancing the two is difficult, but it can be done. True visionaries can make the good popular, but in some instances it is impossible. I think this is a particularly timely essay, given the increased awareness of “popularity” that comes from social media, as measured by number of Twitter followers, etc. I think it is more important to strive for that “goodness” over popularity. The thing about popularity is that it is fleeting and fickle. One day you could be on top and the next, something or someone else has taken your place. As long as popularity is your higher priority, then what you create will have to be just as fickle in order to maintain it’s high stature. On the other hand, goodness is driven more for an internal desire — for personal accomplishment based on the true expression of yourself. So it may not be popular, but it will gain a following of people who admire it and what is more, people will respect it, even if begrudgingly. Millennials are a big example to this topic. Millennials always strive hard to be popular. They always want to be notice, they always want to be on top and sometimes they want to be the center of attraction but they do not balance it. They focus more on being popular than on being good. They do not care if they are not good or sometimes about what other people say as long as they are popular. And I think it is not healthy for our society. Imagine you had one million Instagram followers. Every post liked by thousands. Every selfie flooded with compliments. Imagine if every idea you ever posted on social media inspired others, and people all over the world looked up to you as role model of who they hoped to be.
It feels good to imagine, right? It kind of feels like how nice it might be if you were the most popular person in your high school. In fact, social media has become the world is high school, and whether we realize it or not, we all have those moments when we imagine that having a lot of followers might make us envied, liked, and as cool as we wished we were back then. The bottom line is this: being popular is great, but it comes with a price. If you are not producing, you are done. That is not a pleasant thought, but a necessary one to consider. While popularity has its perks, it also has its pitfalls. It is amazing how far some will go just to pursue popularity. Some take down their posts if they do not get enough likes in just a few minutes. Some threaten their friends who do not compliment them on each selfie uploaded. Others post things they do not really mean just because they think it will get more people to follow them.
