During my school holidays, I went to stay with my cousin’s family in Penang for a week. They lived in a hut in a kampong. One fine morning, my cousin, Andy, and I went to fish in a stream near the outskirts of the kampong. Andy caught a lot of fishes. I was not as lucky and decided to move further upstream to try another fishing spot. I managed to catch many small fishes there. When I went back to look for Andy, he was nowhere to be found. Thinking that he might have moved downstream, I followed the stream to look for him. After some time, I realized that I had lost my way. I began to panic when I could not even find a public telephone to make a call. At that moment, I saw a signpost with a Malay world “Polis”. “Perhaps it means ‘Police’,” I thought and ran quickly in that direction.I was right. Ahead was a police-post, I told the policemen what had happened. They listened patiently to my description of my cousin’s kampong. Then one of the policemen brought me back to my cousin’s hut. How glad I was to find myself safe with my relatives again. It was certainly horrifying to have lost my way in a strange place.

Answer:

It never is a funny situation to be when one actually gets lost in an unknown area. It could even bring a fatal accident, though mine wasn't really that much serious. But still, sometimes it made me realize how lucky I was to be able to get back safely.

Explanation:

Once during a rather boring and lazy day, I decided that I would go out and explore my surroundings. I hadn't really went anywhere by myself. Every time it's always someone forcing me to go with them. This time, when I'm bored with nothing to do, no one's available. But feeling excited and confident about myself, I ventured out.

The place where we are is a small village where there are hardly any big buildings and a very scarce population. Me and my friends had chosen this small, remote but quiet place for our vacation destination as we had never really experienced life outside of the big city. So, here I was, that morning, ready and confident to conquer the world, I mean 'this' world. I set out, went further following the sound of brooks and birds. Then I decided to rest in a wide grassy place, lying down, staring at the cloudy sky. Suddenly, as if this calm composure wasn't meant for me, it started getting dark and heavy showers began to fall. I ran, not knowing in which direction I'm supposed to go. Then I realized I am lost. Everything looks the same, and there was no house, no human being to approach. I thought of crying but even then the tears can't really come for I was completely out of the situation. Drenched, tired, worried and also blaming myself for going out alone, I trudged back slowly to wherever my legs take me. I wasn't even sure if I ever paid attention to where I'm going. Then the rain stopped, giving me a bit of relief.

It may have been more than an hour of walking when I came upon a clear but tiny pathway, which I think was used by some locals as the road. Following the clearing, I came upon a tiny hut where there wasn't anyone in it. But it provided a resting place for sometime. Setting out again, I am more cheerful as the sun was up again and I am also dry. The mountains and the scenery got my attention, making me forget about my situation. Walking on, I met some tourists who had also just went for a stroll. Then I knew I must be near to any residential place. When I reached the first house of the village, my joy was incomparable. Then, I reached my room, took bath and went to the balcony to view the scenery again.

I may have gotten lost but that made me realize that if I hadn't went alone, I wouldn't be here with the experience. That taught me the how weak and also at the same time, strong I was. I, who had always depended on friends and others for any travelling or anything, survived getting lost in an unknown place. It also taught me the need to be independent at times, for only then will you learn valuable lessons nobody can share with you.
