Police have found a four-week-old monkey stolen from a New South Wales zoo that wildlife carers said could have died if it was not reunited with its distressed mother.
The baby was one of three rare pygmy marmoset monkeys taken from Symbio Wildlife Park, an hour’s drive south of Sydney, on Friday night.
Police arrested two men after appeals to the public for information about the monkeys. The baby monkey was found in the car and the pair were taken to Campbelltown police station where they were assisting police with inquiries.
The baby monkey was being taken back to the wildlife park for further examination and care, according to a police statement. The whereabouts of the two other monkeys are unknown.
