                                      My City on Festive Evening

David Binder has rightly said, “Festivals promote diversity, they bring neighbors into dialogue, they increase creativity, they offer opportunities for civic pride, they improve our general psychological well-being. In short, they make cities better places to live.” It is quite true! Festivals are the vibrant colours of life. All of us so longingly wait for their arrival. When the burden of the monotonous studies and routine becomes annoying, festivals come as welcome rejuvenation breaks.

Festivals bring happiness, cheer, hope, optimism, celebrations, lights, joy, cooperation and many more pleasant things in our life. During Diwali, Christmas, Holi, Eid, Gurupurb, Passover, or any other festival the world appears to be a heaven. It appears as if the entire world is attending a wedding celebration. Children, adults, teenagers, elders, and middle-aged people all of them love festivals.

My city gets decorated like a bride on her wedding day. All buildings, shops and houses are decorated with lights, paper decorative materials, etc. Shops, markets, roads are all abuzz with cheerful activities. Everyone is in high spirits. There is plethora of delicious delicacies and eatables.

At night the decorative nights look like stars come down on earth. People let off crackers. The entire sky is brightened with the colorful radiance.

Delhi has enjoyed the status of a historically important city and its warmth can well be noticed during festive celebrations. Dussehra is one such festival which brings ten days of merriment all around the city. Pandals are set at different places and elaborate stages are erected for the presentation of Ramlila in which episodes of Ramayana are enacted. It also keeps our culture alive and makes us understand the importance of being good in life, for good always conquers.

The city presents one of the most beautiful sights on the day of Dussehra. It's a treat for eyes as well as mind to remind ourselves of the victory of good over evil and see the effigies of Ravana bursting into flames. Innumerable stalls in the fair invite the viewers to try delicacies on the merry occasion. The evening is a culmination of ten days long celebrations and enactment of the life of Lord Rama who defeated Ravana, Kumbhkaran, and Meghnath on that evening, as the legend is prevalent.

Though other festivals like Diwali, Holi, and Christmas also enthuse life in the city, Dussehra celebration is unparalleled due to its ethical and appeal.
