Long Essay on A Visit To A Historical Building – The Taj Mahal 500 Words for kids and Students in English

A visit to some historical monument is a fascinating adventure. Last winter I happened to visit the Taj Mahal. The Taj Mahal, according to a great thinker, “Is a drop of love on the rosy cheeks of time.” Tagore called it, “A dream in marble” while others held the view that it is a “poem in marble” and “symphony in stone.”

As soon as I reached Agra, I rushed to the Taj Mahal. This majestic piece of art and architecture was built by Shah Jahan, the famous Mughal emperor, in the memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. This historical monument is a monument of love between Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal.

A Visit To A Historical Building Essay

As one enters the premises of this building, one is greeted by the sky-high cypress trees that stand on both sides of the main path. The path leads to the main mausoleum. There are beautiful gardens and flower-bearing trees around this majestic historical building.

The main building stands on a platform. On the four corners of the platform are four towers acting like four sentinels of this central crown of glory. Inside the tomb is the grave of Shah Jahan’s wife. Mumtaz Mahal. At the back of the Taj runs the sacred river Yamuna. The reflection of the Taj Mahal in the still waters of Yamuna on a full moon night is an exquisite sight. Thousands of people visit this great work of art. The entire building which is made up of white marble, shines like a dream on a moonlit night.

I visited each and every part of this superb piece of art and was deeply delighted to see it as a work of profound skill and art. Almost all the foreign tourists visit this monumental structure. It is said that crores of rupees were spent and many labourers were employed to construct this tombstone. The Taj Mahal took 21 years to complete. It is said that after it had been completed, the hands of the artisans and the labourers, who built it, were chopped off so that they might not be able to build another Taj Mahal.

Through all these years, the Taj Mahal has withstood the vagaries of time and weather and preserved its ancient glory and splendour. Many a poet, thinker and writer has showered high praise on this historical building. In the year 2007, the Taj Mahal was ranked first among the New Seven Wonders of the World.
