My hobby is gardening.
I got interested in gardening during the lockdown last year. I had started out with chilli seeds from the kitchen. Today those seeds have grown into sturdy plants that have beautiful green and red chillies on them. The chillies are used in each meal.
I began gardening to see if I could grow anything. When the chilli seeds grew into saplings, I was motivated to try and grow some more types of plants. It increased my confidence levels tremendously. It made me open to trying new things, even those that I knew nothing about. It also taught me to be patient.
Gardening also gives me a sense of achievement, knowing that I am spending my time doing something sensible, rather than unnecessarily wasting time using various screens. I feel responsible for looking after the chilli, capsicum and tomato plants that I have planted in pots in our balcony. It is fun to water them, take out the weeds, pull out any dried up leaves, add manure and reap the harvest!
Additionally, I find gardening therapeutic in nature. It relaxes and somehow helps me calm down. I can spend as much or as little time with the plants as I wish, but I feel drawn to them. I check on them twice a day, and enjoy appreciating how nature works.
I intend to learn more about gardening from my grandmother, who is an expert at it. Someday I hope to have a small terrace garden on the roof, with many more vegetables.
