Answer:

Don't put too many irons in the fire

Explanation:

If we attempt to do to much at once, we shall not do anything properly, because "He who begins many things, finishes but few."

In the old days before motor transport, when horses were in great demand, blacksmiths were busy men. The ‘irons in the fire‘ were for forging into horseshoes, and if the blacksmith had a number of horses ready to be shoed, he might try to save time by putting too many irons in the furnace, so that the heat was insufficient to make them all red-hot.

It basically means not to overwork oneself. If you are handling too many things at one time, chances are you'll fail. We should not overburden overselves with more work than what we can handle.

This idiom is suggesting that we should handle responsibilies as per our capabilities. If we take on more work than what we can handle, we would mess things up. It's better to handle things one by one so that the tasks are completed smoothly. If we talk literally, incase if a blacksmith puts too many irons in the fire, the fire would not be able to justly melt the iron, they would remain half baked.

It originates perhaps from the work of a blacksmith who works with iron and steel. In possible short time he want to complete a lots of work.It is suggested that one must not involve himself or herself in lots of activities which may create tense on his physical and mental health. It may also happen that one may be master if all trades, master of nothing. In short, It Denotes : Someone should NOT be involved in several different activities at the same time, or have several different plans all at once.

Hope it helped.
