Tiger is our national animal. They're also called as the big cats. But who're taking care of them ? None.

Yes, the tigers are getting extinct. Sad thing is that it is told by the government that they might get extinct in a decade or two.

» Why are tigers getting extinct?

It's because we, humans kill those poor creatures. Most of them say that the tigers are an enemy to humans. Not actually they are. They're good to humans too, only when they do not get food, they hunt for humans. Why do we kill them? Because tigers hunt for animals, most of the forests are getting cleared, hence are animals. When the animals are getting cleared where will tigers get food from ? Hence they hunt for humans, and humans, for their protection, they kill the tigers. It's all because we start things and the threat is on us now.

The wild areas are ruled by the tigers. We humans, enter into wild places for various reasons and disturb their habitat, this is one reason for them to get extinct.

Tiger trade is one reason too. Even if it's illegal to kill tigers, most tribals or normal people kill them for their skin, bones, whiskers, and other body parts and earn lots of money.

" Project Tiger "

Project Tiger is a conservation project launched on April 1973. It is the famous wildlife conservation project in India. The main objective of this project is to conserve and save the Bengal Tigers.

According to a recent survey, in India there are 50 tiger reserves which are governed by Project Tiger. India is a home to 70% of tigers in the world.

» How can you conserve and protect Tigers?

You can do this by afforestation. Protect their habitat, protect the wildlife.

We can also ask the government to launch Tiger conserving projects, Tiger - Friendly policies.

» Why Should I care if Tiger goes extinct?

Come on, you are the citizen of India. How can you even say that !? Tiger is the National animal of India. They're the most critically endangered species. It acts as the natural balance in the forest. Tigers are so cute, aren't they? They're also living beings, like you and me. They also feel the pain, when their family is endangered. They also need family, right? Stop killing them, it's illegal! We and the government should make many efforts to conserve these cute animals, No matter how small the effort is, Every single thing counts.

Mighty Tigers, we can here them roar, But they maybe no more. Save Tigers, before they're silenced forever and ever.

\huge{TIGERS}

• India has a wide diversity and an abundance of wildlife, but the sad fact is that it is swiftly diminishing. While on the other one hand deforestation is depriving the animals of their natural habitat, on the other, the inhumanity and greed of man is leading to merciless slaughter of these innocent creatures.

There are number of animals which are fast heading for extinction because of illegal poaching. The most important of these is the tiger.

Inspite of "Project Tiger" which is the government's attempt to save the animals, the number of tigers are diminishing at the alarming rate.

According to a report many tigers have been killed by poachers.. who sell the animals skins, bones and blood for a very high price in the illegal international trade in wildlife. Each tiger is supposed to sell for over Rs. 7 lakh in underground markets operating in China, Hang-Kong, Vietnam etc.

A pair of tiger claws are priced at Rs. 13000 each. The parts of tigers are put to various uses. While tiger skins serve as a glamorous show piece for the rich, other parts are used for medicinal purposes for instance. Chipa's traditional pharmaceutical manufacturers depend heavily on tiger bone extracts for these.

Countries are willing to pay a heavy price and thus the onslaught on the tigers continues. The world conservation union has warned that at this rate the Indian tiger would be completely wiped out.

Not only tigers there are many more animals who are getting extinct like rhinoceros, leopards, black bears etc.

• A number of solutions can be suggested to improve the situation.

First of all, since many of these marauding attacks take place in these reserves, there should be better management and control in these. The anti-poaching staff should be well armed and mobile, and should have enough people on the job. They should be tough incorruptible and committed to the job of putting down poaching with a strong hand.

Further the offenders who are caught killing animals, should be severely penalized.

Finally, the buffer zones around these sanctuaries should be well guarded so that the animals wander into the nearby villages.

• If these measures are strictly implemented, they may go a long way to protect our animal kingdom (or tigers). We should all unanimously condemn the killers and traders of animal cases and should feel and believe it to be our duty to preserve the wildlife of our country. Only then can future generations hope to enjoy the magnificent sight of their most beautiful God's creations.
