By the age of six, I was extremely excited to start attending kindergarten. My oldest cousin Cameron was already in second grade, and had come home every day for the last two years telling me how amazing school was. He loved it so much, that we would play, “school,” and he would teach me things he learned in school that day. I had already been to pre-school, and pre-k, where I learned to read small flip books, and fell in love with my teachers who seemed to know everything. Perhaps, reading from such a young age is how I developed my love for knowledge. By my first day of kindergarten, my reading level suggested I was in third grade, even though I was only six. (this was definitely something I was going to brag about on the playground) In-fact, my youngest memory from my elementary schooling, goes back to my first kindergarten classroom. I loved my teacher, Miss. Daphorne, she was a tall woman, with a kind voice. Her classroom intrigued me; it had the alphabet strung across the top of the classroom walls on boarder stickers, and a lot of “really cool,” books. She even suggested to my mom that I should be tested for the gifted and talented program. I was a “star student,” until we began to write.
