The relationship between mass and inertia is explained as follows:

Basically mass is nothing but the overall matter that constitutes a thing. on the other hand, inertia is that property of an object whereby it always tendency to prevent any kind of change happening while a body is moving.

So, it is generally considers that a substance or body will continue to stay in a state of rests unless some external force acts upon  it. Hence both of these can refer to the same object and its overall matter or its property of bring in motion or sat rest. Hence they are connected to each other.

For example: If you pull out a table cover from a table over which there are other heavier objects placed upon it, to will notice that the objects will still continue o be as it is and the table cover will be swiftly out of its place. This is due yo the combined effect of mass and inertia.

The tendency of an object to resist changes in its state of motion varies with mass. Mass is that quantity that is solely dependent upon the inertia of an object. The more inertia that an object has, the more mass that it has. A more massive object has a greater tendency to resist changes in its state of motion
