The establishment of Chittaranjan locomotive took place during the First Five Year Plan.
Though the first five year plan mainly focussed on primary sector, but industrial sector was promoted as well. Accordingly we see various big industrial units were established. It includes Chittaranjan locomotive factory, a state owned electronic locomotive manufacturer. It is established in Chittaranjan, West Bengal and is one of the world's largest locomotive factory.
