Nearest ten of 96 = 100 because 6 is five or greater and we have to move 1 ten ahead of 90, that is 100.

Nearest ten of 47 = 150 because 7 is five or greater and we have to move 1 ten ahead of 40, that is 50.

Estimated sum = 100 + 50 = 150

But when we add and then estimate, we get 96 + 47 = 143 rounded to nearest tens = 140

The second method in hence, wrong. '150' will be your answer.
