Estimation of sodium benzoate by non-aqueous titration

  1. 0.1M of perchloric acid is prepared and standardized with acetic acid and acetic anhydride and is loaded in the burette.
  2. In a 100ml conical flask 0.25g of sodium benzoate is taken and to it, 20ml of glacial acetic acid is added.
  3. The mixture is warmed to 50°C and is cooled.
  4. To the content 0.05ml of indicator called naphthol benzine is added.
  5. Now the solution in the burette is mixed with the solution in a conical flask, till the color of the content present in the conical flask turns dark green.
  6. Now the value in the burette till which solution is used must be noted and the percentage of sodium benzoate must be calculated.
