Q. Ethane on combustion gives carbon dioxide and water show law of conservation of mass?

Ans :-

Law of Conservation of mass :- In every chemical reaction the total mass of reactants is equal to total mass of products.

However,Mass of conservative is not applied in nuclear reactions.

,Mass of conservative is not applied in nuclear reactions. There, the law is known as law of conservation of mass - energy.

Given Reaction:-

Ethane on combustion gives carbon dioxide and water.

2C_2H_6 + 5O_2 \rightarrow 2CO_2 + 6H_2O

First, we should balance the given equation.

Now,

calculate Total mass of reactant :-

2C_2H_6 + 5O_2 →4 × 12 + 1 × 12 + 10 × 16

= 48 + 12 + 160

= 220u

Now, calculate total mass of products:-

2CO_2 + 6H_2O→ 4 × 12 + 1 × 12 + 16 × 10

= 48 + 12 + 160

= 220 u

L. H. S = R. H. S = 220u

hence,

mass of reactants = mass of products

Therefore, it follows law of conservation of mass...verified.
