Ethanol + Ethanoic acid —H2SO4——-> Ethyl ethanoiate.

Conc. H2SO4 functions as a dehydrating agent and forms a sweet smelling ester Ethyl acetate. It's IUPAC name is Ethyl ethanoiate.

CH3-CH2-OH + CH3-COOH -----H2SO4---> CH3-COO-CH2-CH3

When ethanol is mixed with ethanoic acid in presence of acid it forms a sweet smelling substance called Ester and this reaction is called esterification reaction.

Reaction:

C2H5OH + CH3COOH --->

CH3COOC2H5 + H2O
