Ethnic Composition in Sri Lanka :

1) There are two major social groups : Sinhala and Tamil speakers.
2) Sinhala speakers are in majority , (74 %) while Tamil speakers are about 18%.
3) The Tamil-speakers are divided into Sri Lankan Tamils and Indian Tamils.
4) Indian Tamils are the plantation workers that came during colonial period.
5) The Sri Lankan tamils reside in the northern and eastern side of the country.
6) The Sinhala speakers are buddhists, while Tamil speakers are Hindu and Muslims
7) There are 7% Christians who are both Sinhala and Tamil speakers.
