The Ethyl magnesium bromide can be converted  to ethane by carrying out hydrolysis .

Explanation:

Grignard reagent

  • It is actually a alkyl magnesium halide or can be phenyl magnesium halide.
  • It has wide use in chemistry
  • It can be converted to number of compounds under different conditions .
  • If we need to convert it into Ethane , we can do it by carrying out its hydrolysis .

The reaction is given below :

C₂H₅Mg Br    + H₂O ---> C₂H₆ + Mg(OH)Br

(Ethyl mag.Bromide)  (water)   (ethane)  (Magnesium hydroxy bromide)

On hydrolysis , it forms ethane and   Magnesium hydroxy bromide
