Ethyl orthoformate or triethyl orthoformate  is formed by heating with sodium ethoxide with chlroform

C₂H₅ONa + CHCl₃ -----Δ--→ HC(OC₂H₅)3

Sodium ethoxide + Chloroform ----Δ----→ Tri ethyl Orthoformate

Explanation 
⇒ When sodium ethoxide reacts with Chloroform under certain conditions while heating, it suddenly form Tri ethyl orthoformate. The process of reaction is very sudden.
