2/3 is a count of two slice of pizza. Each slice is called one third of a pizza.

4/6 is a count of four slices of pizza.. Each slice is called one sixth of a pizza,

Do not add the counts of 2 and 4, because the slices are different amounts of pizzas.

The 3 slices from a whole pizza called thirds, and or the 6 slices from another whole pizza must be recut to form the same size slices.

For the 2/3 cut each slice into 2 smaller slices and that will create 4 smaller slices out of six smaller slices.

2 large slices out of 3 is the same amount of pizza as 4 smaller slices out of 6 smaller slices.

The solution is to write that 2/3 pizza is the same as 4/6, and then add the other fraction amount of 4/6 of a pizza

2/3 = 4/6

+4/6 = 4/6

Is equal to 8/6

8/6 is 8 slices where 6 of the slices is the same amount of pizza as one whole pizza and 2 slices left extra.

8/6 = 1 whole pizza and 2/6 slices.

2/6 is two slices out of six, which is the same amount of pizza as 1 large slice called one third.

The information written above can be written with less writing as:

2/3+4/6 = 4/6+4/6 = 8/6 = 1 2/6 = 1 1/3
