Every one of us is familiar with the above quote and understand the importance of a healthy body & mind in our life. A healthy person also poses a healthy mind and spends an eventful life. Likewise, the health of the people of a country denotes how healthy and beautiful the country is.

One of the most important players in ensuring the healthiness of the population of a country is its government. It is the primary responsibility of the government to ensure that the best possible healthcare services are available to each and every citizen of the country, cheaply and easily.
In this respect, our government is also performing very well in ensuring the availability of healthcare services to its citizen.
Following are few of the strategies and measures taken up by the government of India towards the healthcare sector:
1. National Health Mission: This is a policy taken up by the government of India to provide the healthcare requirements to the rural and under privileged parts of the country. There are various initiatives taken up under the National Health Mission and following are few of them:
- Rogi Kalyan Samiti/Patient Welfare Committee: It is a management structure where a group of people creates an organisational body which supervises the working of a hospital or healthcare unit.
- Janani Suraksha Yojana: This policy provides facilities for institutional delivery of pregnant woman and Neo-natal care to provide better and healthy life for new born babies. Cash assistance is also provided to under-privileged families to take care of the babies well being.
2. Healthcare Promotion and Advisories: The government of our country also spreads awareness using mass communication methods, like cinema, television etc. , regarding various deadly diseases like AIDS, Diabetes etc. It also spreads awareness among the people regarding the dangerous effects of various habits like smoking, tobacco etc. The government also organises various social events for spreading awareness of healthy lifestyle, like ‘World Yoga Day’, ‘World Diabetes Day’ etc.
3. The central and state governments of our country also have opened various ‘super-speciality’ hospitals which provides various critical care healthcare services at a very nominal price.
