To evaluate it by addition ,

we can cross multiply the given fractions so,

 \sf : \implies\frac{4}{3}  +  \frac{7}{8}

\sf : \implies \frac{4 \times 8 + 7 \times 3}{3 \times 8}

\sf : \implies  \frac{32 + 21}{24}

\sf : \implies \frac{53}{24}

 \bold{=  >  \frac{53}{24}  = 2.29}
