Stomata are main source of Transpiration, more important than cuticles and lenticels. These Stomata are present in excess on leaves and therefore, increasing transpiration through leaves.
Another important role of leaves is that when excess transpiration takes place, they get curled or wilted which prevents further more transpiration through them. Sometimes, they also she'd to prevent it.
In desert plants, the leaves are reduced to spines which again prevent loss of water through transpiration in extreme conditions and keep the plant hydrated.

Thanks.
Hope this helps you..!
