Solution:
To Determine:- The value of 5.5² using identity.
We can calculate the value using 2 ways.
1. Using identity (a + b)² = a² + 2ab + b²
We have:-
= (5.5)²
= (5 + 0.5)²
Using the above mentioned identity, we get:-
= (5)² + 2 × 5 × 0.5 + (0.5)²
= 25 + 5 + 0.25
= 30.25
→ 5.5² = 30.25
2. Using identity (a - b)² = a² - 2ab + b²
We have:-
= (5.5)²
= (6 - 0.5)²
Using the above mentioned identity, we get:-
= (6)² - 2 × 6 × 0.5 + (0.5)²
= 36 - 6 + 0.25
= 30.25
→ 5.5² = 30.25
★ Which is our required answer.

Algebraic Identities.
- (a + b)² = a² + 2ab + b²
- (a - b)² = a² - 2ab + b²
- a² - b² = (a + b)(a - b)
- (a + b)³ = a³ + 3ab(a + b) + b³
- (a - b)³ = a³ - 3ab(a - b) - b³
- a³ + b³ = (a + b)(a² - ab + b²)
- a³ - b³ = (a - b)(a² + ab + b²)
- (x + a)(x + b) = x² + (a + b)x + ab
- (x + a)(x - b) = x² + (a - b)x - ab
- (x - a)(x + b) = x² - (a - b)x - ab
- (x - a)(x - b) = x² - (a + b)x + ab
