It is very true that evaporation causes cooling because when evaporation takes place it uses the latent heat of vaporisation to evaporate making the surface area to feel cool.

Hey mate ,

Evaporation needs the energy to change its state from water to vapour , this energy is obtained by the surrounding (s) , Since the energy from the surrounding is used up hence it causes cooling .

This is the sole basis of honeycomb coolers , wearing of cotton clothes , etc
