Explanation: One evidence is that he is a business-oriented person and even when Charles Darnay was in prison in Paris, Lucie and Dr Manette came and he got them some land/state so that staying at Tellson's does not cause any trouble. Other than that he is also very close to the Manettes as he took care or Lucie when she was young- Dr Manette got imprisoned- and also now that she is old.
